12/30 UPDATE (from Tia): Mahalo everyone for your continuous love and support. Kelton and I have returned home. Kelton still has a long road to recovery with follow up doctor’s appointments on Oahu, in addition to requiring long term medication. We are so thankful to be healing at home

12/21 UPDATE #2: Kelton & Tia have been released from isolation!

12/21 UPDATE (from Kathy): Aloha all! It’s starting to look like Kelton’s Christmas will be spent at Kapiolani. Tests are still being ran but so far no answers as to what Kelton has. The unknown is scary and he wants to be home so bad, but for now he is exactly where he needs to be. If you cannot donate, because I know financially times are hard this time of year, please consider sharing the post to get the word out. And please say a little prayer every night for my dear sister Tia and her ohana.

12/18 FAMILY UPDATE: Keone, Tia, Chaysen and Kelton would like to extend their utmost gratitude to all who have donated, sent food and gifts, said a prayer, or shared this post. These heartfelt gestures mean so much to them at this time. Mahalo to each and every one of you!

ORIGINAL:
Within the past few weeks, Kelton, the youngest son of Keone and Tia Ampong, suddenly became ill, experiencing a variety of symptoms including coughing, chest, and back pains.

As time went on, Kelton experienced worsening symptoms, prompting a visit to the ER. At that time, Kelton was given a round of antibiotics and was sent home. On Sunday, 12/15 Kelton returned to the hospital once again, where he received a second round of antibiotics, nebulizer treatments, Tylenol, and Ibuprofen. Upon reviewing his chest x-ray, the treating Physician determined he had a serious case of pneumonia. Since Maui Memorial does not have a Peds unit, and for specialized care, Kelton was sent to Kapiolani Women's and Children’s Hospital on the morning of Monday, 12/16. Later that day, Kelton enjoyed his first meal in roughly 3 weeks, as he hadn’t been able to keep anything down prior. He is currently in isolation, pending test results which may take between 3-4 days to receive. This will then guide treatment planning.

At this point, Tia will remain on O’ahu with Kelton as they await test results and their plan of care. It is currently estimated that they may be in the hospital for at least a week. Keone remains on Maui to care for their oldest son Chaysen, as well as their animals.

Due to this unforeseen circumstance, Tia has needed to take off from work and will remain on leave until Kelton is recovered. The financial burden of airfare, transportation, food, and medical expenses is a heavy load to bear. This Ohana is not one to ask for anything, which is why we, Kathy & Gabbie, friends of the Ohana, kindly ask for your kokua on behalf of the Ampong’s, so that they can focus on getting Kelton back to his happy and loving self.

We & the Ampong’s understand that times are tough, and greatly appreciate any contribution; financially, prayers & well wishes, or even a meal, no matter how big or small.

Mahalo for your time, consideration and support!
