My sister Tawnja had to undergo three lengthy and relentless spinal surgeries over two years ago where they placed titanium rods in her spine from her tailbone to her neck. During the second surgery, they impacted her spine, which has left her with permanent damage and limited use of her legs. So instead of slowly getting better and getting her life back, she has been slowly getting worse! And to add to all the trauma, her titanium rod is fractured in two places. Now she needs to undergo more surgeries to try to fix this.

She will need to fly to Northern California to see a specialist at Stanford Medical Center to try to get this fixed and hopefully begin to heal and regain some of her life back.

She is the most vivacious, caring, and fun-loving person, who never feels sorry for herself or complains. But her income is very limited since she is no longer able to work. And since she cannot walk unassisted anymore, she needs to have an attendant to travel with her and help to care for her with appointments and such.

She was forced was to retire from her passion as a Special Education Teacher and Counselor three years ago.  Tawnja was literally “that teacher” who the students will remember that she changed their lives.  She misses teaching and retiring due to the pain and her spine health was one of the hardest decisions of her life.
