PLEASE HELP IKAIKA BEAT CANCER
Ikaika, aka Austin Ward, has been battling lymphoma for over a year. It was gone, we thought, but it's back with a vengeance.
He was born prematurely on May 9th, 1995, weighing only 3 pounds! He was in an incubator for a month! He struggled thru his teens, as his parents went thru a divorce. After high school he enlisted in the Marines. He was promoted to Lance Corporal. While training for deployment he became ill. After being sent to 3 different hospitals he landed at Bob Wilson Medical Navy hospital in San Diego. He was diagnosed with stage 4 non hodgkin's lymphoma and given 1 week to a month to live! The tumor on his liver was 9 lbs! After over 700 hours of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant he went into remission, cancer free! Sadly a month later he had a check up and the scan revealed his cancer is back and not only is it in his liver, it's in his stomach, chest, and back...
He is now in need of a bone marrow transplant and does not have a match on the donor list.
He is being given a medical release from the Marines, so he needs monetary help! He has to get a bone marrow transplant because the cancer is immune to the chemotherapy. And since the Marines are discharging him he and his mother will have no where to stay. They are from Hawaii and there's no place there for him to get the treatment he needs, so his mother is going to need to take care of him near Bob Wilson medical center in San Diego. He will require a minimum of 3 months of housing and care after the transplant and has no money for a place there. Of course his mother will have to leave her job to be there so they will also need money for her mortgage, living expenses, food, travel, utilities, medical supplies, medical bills, the list seems endless when you have no resources.
This family, and most of all Ikaika, signed up to serve his country and now he needs help! If ever you thought of helping, NOW is the time! He is an excellent example of a good, kind, intelligent young man that should be planning his lifes adventures instead of looking for matching donors to save his life!
I beg you to give in any amount you can afford, it will not be wasted! Help this former Marine win his battle against cancer!
