Kokua 4 Team Holmes Fight Cancer

Many of you may recognize these beautiful faces:  Frank and Dodie Holmes as they have both touched many lives here in Hawai‘i nei and beyond.  Uncle Frank has been in commercial real estate for many years, but his passion has always been his yard.  Over the years, he quietly became a very successful amateur, self-taught expert in collecting & sustaining plants, with a particular love for our endangered native plants.  A Kumu Hula in the Auntie Maiki tradition, Auntie Dodie is well-known in the hula community as a great resource of important hula traditions of which she continues to share. 

 A few years ago, Uncle Frank was diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Unfortunately, the study for which he was enrolled was unsuccessful in stopping the cancer which has now progressed into his bones.  Four days ago, he was hospitalized at Queen’s.  

We started this GoFundMe account in hopes of reaching everyone whose lives may have been touched by the Holmes ‘Ohana.  Although they desperately need our kōkua, they have found it very difficult to ask.  So, we are asking for them.  As you can imagine, the medical bills are growing rapidly, and with social security now their only income, they cannot make ends meet.  They have no insurance and Medicare won’t cover their medical bills.  While their two daughters are hard-working and are helping, they cannot give the financial support necessary for a battle with prostate cancer.  Since his hospitalization, Auntie Dodie and the girls have been spending most of their time with Uncle Frank.
