Hi everyone, my name is Amanda and I am hoping to raise money in support of my sister Ashley, her husband Kofi and their family after the life altering car accident that Kofi endured on May 19, 2023.
After being offered a job with CN Rail, the family was so excited for a secure future as Kofi completed training to become
a train conductor. Spending weeks away from his family training in Winnipeg, Kofi had recently returned home on April 28 to begin the hands on portion of the job, and start working towards a promising, secure future for their family. On May 19, 2023, after travelling from Sarnia to Vaughan yard, Kofi and his fellow crew members were on route to a hotel to get some much needed rest before the trip back the next day. That is when a man driving a stolen Jeep Wrangler, ran a red light and collided with the dodge caravan, in which the crew was travelling. Kofi took the full force of the impact and woke up in the van, unable to move his body. After cutting out seats to get him out, Emergency Services rushed him to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto where it was discovered he had sustained a complete C5 Spinal Cord Injury and was paralyzed from the neck down, along with other injuries including broken shoulder and arm, broken ribs, punctured lung and more.
Kofi has since had surgery on his neck and awaits surgery on his shoulder, but it is clear there is a very long road to recovery ahead, and only time will tell what the future holds for he and his beautiful family.
While we all maintain hope for the best possible outcome, our intent for this fundraiser is to help cover the various expenses associated with a long term hospital stay including travel and food costs for Ashley as she goes back and forth to support Kofi. Also, this will help with easing the stress of meals for the kids, childcare and day to day costs due to wage loss.
