Koda’s Leukaemia Journey
Donation protected
On the 13 of March our world fell apart when our son Koda was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). As his mum and dad we knew something wasn’t quite right after him being poorly on and off for over 5 weeks with different coughs/ colds and bugs. After repeated high temperatures we took him to the GP who later referred us to the hospital. The hospital ran tests finding seriously low blood counts, leading to an instant transfer to Glasgow.
The same night after arriving in the Royal Hospital for Children, we were told this was a high chance of being Leukaemia.
Since then we have had an emotional journey after just finding out Koda had cancer, we were then told he had a rare gene. This Philadelphia gene is uncommon for Koda’s age and was unexpected. This changed his treatment plan making it more intense and has higher risk of returning.
We have now been in the hospital for 3 weeks, he has completed 3 lots of chemotherapy and is doing amazing.
Unfortunately as a result of the chemotherapy, on the 2nd of April Koda has started to lose his hair. So Koda doesn’t feel different and alone, Koda’s dad (Corey) will be raising money through shaving his head. This way Koda can look the same as his dad with us all there to support him. We hope to give back to charities and the ward, who have been extremely supportive in the most challenging time.
