KodaBear Needs Your Help to repair a Torn Achilles

Donation protected

Hello friends!

Koda Bear, Read to Rover’s gentle giant, is desperately asking for help. Koda has spent the past 4 months back and forth between Chimacum Valley Veterinary Clinic, Animal Surgical Center and Sound Therapy in Seattle and Poulsbo. X-rays and other diagnostic tests revealed a torn Achilles tendon in his rear left leg. A mass on Koda’s rear right leg discovered at the same time was aspirated and a bacterial infection was found.

Friday, October 18th, the extent of the tear will be determined by ultrasound so we can proceed with proper treatment. This includes platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy, physical therapy and a custom brace. These interventions will be biweekly for 6-12 months. He is currently on a high dose of pain and anti-inflammatory medications. Meanwhile he is on maximum mobility restrictions to decrease the risk of further tearing.

My husband and I dedicated our careers to caring for those with disabilities. Unfortunately nearly 10 years ago we both found ourselves on disability due to my severe Crohn’s and his 5 shoulder surgeries resulting in Chondrolysis. Koda was originally brought into our family to help my husband get out of his depression and pain from the Chondrolysis.

We now live check to check from Social Security. Due to our debt to income ratio we were unable to qualify for Credit Care. Last week we held a garage sale in an attempt to raise enough money for Koda’s brace and initial therapy appointments. The garage sale along with with help from our family and friends abled us to order Kodas brace. we just went for his first visit in Issaquah WA,

Next we need to schedule the removal of the infection on his right leg before it becomes a bigger issue. We have enough left over for that surgery but not enough to cover next Friday’s (October 18th) ultrasound procedure and treatment to see exactly where and how big the tear is; hopefully then he’ll have his first PRP treatment.

Asking for help had been one of the hardest things we’ve done, normally , we’re the helpers in our communities, not the one’s asking for help. It breaks our hearts that our four legged fur child is in such severe pain and that we’ve exhausted our funds trying to figure out what was going with our boy,  we’re eager to begin treatment now that we know the problem.

We’ve been encouraged to set up this Go Fund Me Campaign by those who attended our garage sale, family and friends. Please help us give Koda the chance to walk again without pain so he and his Papa can get back to doing what they love best by helping in their community. We’re asking for any help we can get- each and every dollar helps.❤️

Please share with your family, friends, coworkers, clubs, groups and any other places you can think of . The wider our sharing circle expands the better chance we’ll have at helping our fur child❤️

We are forever grateful to each and everyone who has or will help us in this quest! With an abundance of love and gratitude, we thank you with all our hearts,

Scott, Michele and Koda Bear Quam
