On the 16th of March 2025 a catastrophic fire in a nightclub in Kocani, Macedonia took atleast 59 innocent young lives and left 155 severely injured with victims being only 16-30 years of age. Macedonia is a developing country where corruption remains a major issue and particularly in times like this it is the ordinary people who are most impacted by these systemic failures. Corruption in Macedonia can result in subpar public services, inadequate medical support/ infrastructure and misallocation of aid.
As Macedonia’s healthcare system struggles to meet demand, victims were randomly scattered amongst hospitals throughout the country and neighbouring European countries leaving families unaware of the living status of their children and additionally to expenses for funerals, medical aid and accomodation near hospitals all around Europe which they cannot afford.
Donating to the fire victims in Macedonia from outside the country can be a frustrating and confusing process, as charities do not allow for online donations from international donors. This creates a significant barrier for people who want to help but are unable to do so because of geographical restrictions so I’ve decided to create a safe and legitimate platform to allow those from outside Macedonia to donate directly to the victims and their families.
Given the corrupt nature of the country and the lack of transparency in how the raised funds are distributed, this platform will ensure that every dollar you contribute goes straight to the families of the victims providing emergency relief, medical care, and support for rebuilding lives.
