Prepare yourselves for the first ever kway teav (rice noodle) western in my debut(!) film, ‘Ko’.
We are going into production this spring, March 2020, and stretching our goal to $2500 to pay every member of our crew a stipend for their time and energy!
Set in 1980, Ko follows the story of Samnang, a young refugee who lost everything in the Cambodian genocide, searching for home in rural Minnesota.
The 80s were a universally awkward period of time. Punks thought they were relevant. People wore shoulder pads. The Refugee Act of 1980 brought thousands of war torn people and their flip flops to start anew in Minnesota. I have spent the past few months listening to my friends and elders share Minnesota nice and not-so-nice stories.
As Trump leads Minnesota counties to be the first in the nation to refuse refugees, Ko is a timely story of loss and belonging.
Whatever you can give will be used to support an amazing team of femme/poc artists:
TEAM
SAMNANG - AJ Kouy
MOTHER - Sophak Mom
MRS. BAILEY -Gretchen Emo
DIRECTOR - (me) Kat Eng - see more of my work at kateng.co and on instagram at @k4t3ng
DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY - Morgan Owens
PRODUCERS: Denise Hanh Huynh and Tope Daniel
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: Simone LeClaire
SOUND: Josh Dyrud
And more as we go into casting and finalize the production team this next month!
EXPENSES
I would love to be able to pay each and every member of my team a stipend for their time. I will prioritize keeping everyone well fed! We have an amazing opportunity to work at the Philadelphia Community farm in Osceola, Wisconsin and will use funds for transportation. Your donations will also support finding the right costumes, props, and last but not least, a cow handler.
