Koala Rescue Brisbane South Kickstart

'Koala Rescue Brisbane South Inc.' is a dedicated, volunteer-run organisation committed to the protection and rescue of koalas in the Brisbane South area. It is auspiced and mentored by John Knights, affectionately known as 'Brisbane South’s koala guy', who holds the appropriate Department of Environment, Science and Innovation permit to carry out this work. Our team works tirelessly to ensure these iconic Australian animals receive the care and safety they deserve.

For the past few years, we’ve been operating in a support capacity, funding our efforts out of our own pockets. Now, as we formalise our work into an incorporated association, we’re ready to expand; however, to do it, we need your help, and in particular, financial assistance.

Koalas need us most during breeding season.

Especially from August to February, koalas are on the move — crossing busy roads and venturing into urban areas in search of mates. Unfortunately, this also means more injuries and distress. Our rescue team is busiest during this period, often working long hours, day and night, to respond to calls and to save lives.

We serve communities across Brisbane’s southside — including Camp Hill, Mt Gravatt, Carina, Carindale, Holland Park, Coorparoo, Mansfield and surrounding suburbs. Every rescue is powered by passionate volunteers who dedicate hundreds of hours to locating, monitoring, safely capturing, and transporting injured or displaced koalas.

We can’t do it without the right tools and resources.

To operate safely and effectively, we urgently need specialised and well-maintained rescue equipment, including:

* High-powered torches for night rescues

* Professional-grade rescue poles

* Safe, secure transport cages, and

* Cleaning and maintenance supplies.

All of these are critical for ensuring the safety of both rescuers and animals. Additionally these resources need to be ready at a moment’s notice.
