KOA Team travel to Senegal for BJJ
Donation protected
Please help us continue our efforts to share and spread the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Senegal in order create opportunities for young men and women in West Africa.
Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) team has made three previous trips to Dakar, Senegal in order to introduce and develop a BJJ community in West Africa.
We have done this work in conjunction with the non-profit organization "The Lion Heart Initiative" (LHI). LHI's mission is to create well-regulated, professional MMA in West Africa in order to create opportunities for urban youth, martial artists, and other combat athletes.
KOA Team has worked closely with LHI since 2013 to develop BJJ in Senegal which has proven itself to be a building block for the development of MMA in many other places in the world. Each year we have made a little bit of progress and to date we have been able to help several Senegalese (and one Romanian diplomat) progress to the blue belt level. In March 2016 we able to host the first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament in Senegal which, although small in size, saw several competitors from around the world.
Your donation will help members of KOA Team travel to Senegal, teach seminars, and host the Dakar Open Brazilizan Jiu Jitsu tournament at the Senegalese National Dojo on March 18, 2017. Specifically, your donation will help pay for airfare, lodging, food, and in-country transportation for the team. Additionally, your donation will help buy the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals for the Dakar Open tournament.
Working with the Lion Heart Initiative we have accomplished much in Senegal, but there is still a lot of work to do. Our team has developed a special connection to our partners in Senegal and we take great pride in having developed the first class of BJJ blue belts in Senegal, but we want to see a robust BJJ community in Senegal that will create opportunities for underprivileged youth to have martial arts/BJJ careers. Additionally, we believe in LHI's mission to create a professional MMA venue in West Africa for the same purpose. Please help us continue the pursuit of LHI's mission.
