My father has personally lost his home too, but along with that, his entire livelihood. Getting a message across continents to learn that your childhood memories have been crushed and your worst nightmare has become a reality has left me with the most significant feeling of helplessness.
The updates from 'home' are in fact growing more desperate by the minute. This fires have not abated, the people are not yet safe...more damage is to come. The firefighters, the volunteers, the communities have been working tirelessly to try to keep the flames at bay. But some things are just out of ones control...
And others are not! We CAN make a difference. If I cant be there in person, I can certainly be there in mind and strength, but the real help will come from any donations which we can provide to all those now in need. There are literally hundreds of homeless people, injured animals and exhausted emergency personnel.
I am so grateful that my family is safe, others have not been as lucky. Sometimes it takes drastic events like this for us to really get perspective on what life can throw at you at the most unexpected times and how important it is to appreciate what we DO have. Please help us!
