Road To Paris 2024

Hi, my name is Nyl Yakura. I am a full time badminton player and Tokyo 2021 olympian. For those who know me, know I love the sport of badminton and have dedicated my entire life to it. For those who don’t, badminton is my biggest passion and has been since I was a young boy. Badminton isn’t a huge sport in Canada therefore there is little to no funding for the top athletes or any for that matter.

We are essentially self-funded but are required to travel week after week nonstop throughout the year. It gets very expensive for flights, hotels and food so I am seeking some help to offset some of those costs. Although I have been through this process before and accomplished my huge dream and goal of going to the Olympics, I feel I still had more to give and decided to pursue a second one. It’s not easy to go for it a second time around. Lots of sacrifices again and again.

But having support from you makes it all worth it and I hope to make you proud. KC badminton, my club, has been tremendous in supporting my journey, but I would like to seek outside support to take some of the weight off their shoulders as they have already done so much for me. We are already about 4 months into the qualification period and things are going to pick up really fast so I hope to really put all I have left into this run and take you along with me. We are currently ranked 40th in the world and the highest rank in our region but we want to really crack the top 32 to really be up there with the best in the world.
