Knowledge Is the Path to Peace — Andal Woni Laawol Jam
Presented by Maimouna BA, Peace Advocate & Founder of the Maman Sahélienne Foundation.
I’ve had the honor of receiving the UNHCR Nansen Refugee Award for Africa and being recognized at the United Nations Young Activists Summit. But let me be clear: these awards do not define me. What defines me is the quiet flame within — the one that drives me to act, to speak, to build, and to believe that even a single drop of compassion can ripple into oceans of peace.
I’ve spent the past five years thinking deeply and putting solutions into action for our communities in the Sahel — solutions created by the people and carried forward by them. Today, this has become my life’s mission, and it lives through the Foundation. So no, I’m not just an activist. I am a mother of causes, a sister to the displaced, a daughter of the Sahel. My journey is not about prestige — it’s about purpose.
I won’t go into detail here about my journey or all the initiatives I’ve led. Instead, I’d like to tell you about one of them: the Andal Woni Laawol Jam program, which means “Knowledge is the Path to Peace.” This initiative is not just charity. It’s a movement. A promise. A lifeline for 100 children displaced by conflict and poverty, who still dare to dream of school, safety, and a future.
What We Do:
For the school year 2024-2025 We’ve identified 100 vulnerable children across the Sahel. We’ve enrolled them in school. We’ve provided complete kits with clothing, shoes, and supplies. We’ve mobilized communities to restore faith in education. Now, we need you.
What Your Donation Supports:
For the School year 2025-2026, Every contribution helps:
- Cover school fees and sponsorship costs
- Provide backpacks, clothes, and school supplies
- Support youth volunteers who mentor and visit the children
- Strengthen the emotional and educational bond between sponsors and children
Every contribution makes a difference.
A donation of $50 equips a child with a complete back-to-school kit — including a decent outfit, a pair of shoes, and a backpack.
With $100, you help sustain that child’s education throughout the school year, covering essential needs each trimester.
NOTE: A donation of $250 opens the door to yearly sponsorship — not as an obligation, but as an invitation to include regular follow up and emotional connection. If you choose to take that step, the Maman Sahélienne Foundation will send you details by email, inviting you to connect with a child whose life you can help transform. Whether you decide to become a long-term sponsor or simply offer this generous gift, your support in any amount important!
Why It Matters:
This is not just about education. It’s about dignity. It’s about giving a child the tools to become a peacemaker, a builder, a leader. When you help a child learn, you plant a seed of peace.
