7/9/21 Update from Tanya:

Dearest friends and family,
As of 8 last night, Philip entered the safety and comfort of our Savior's arms. Our hearts are heavy and relieved at the same time. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten, but we couldn't be happier for him in his new body in a much better place. He is probably loving his reunion with his mom and our babies. He was the epitome of a fighter and was looking for one more soul to get saved right up until the end. He went peacefully in his sleep and that is all we could hope for. Thank you for all of the support you have showered on us through the years and the extra love you are extending now in our grief. I love each of you and wouldn't have been strong without you!
~Tanya and the boys

Hello everyone.  My name is Bethany Wagner and I have been blessed to know and love the Knode family my entire life.  We grew up together in Virginia Beach in a tight knit military circle and have remained quite close throughout the years.

As many of you know, Philip has been diagnosed and battling Mitochondrial Syndrome for the past decade.  It is a genetic disorder that occurs when the mitochondria fails to produce enough energy for the body to function properly. It has greatly affected the cells in his brain, initiating his battle with dementia that began some years ago.  He has faced multiple strokes and with each passing one, causing more intense cognitive delay. These past few years have been a slow fade as his organs and body in general struggle to function.

Philip was placed in hospice care on June 19th. The doctors gave him 2 weeks -2 months to live.  I’ve talked with both Tasha and Tanya today and they truly are living each moment in the unknown and in preparation for his battle on earth to be complete.

Tanya has been a faithful wife and loving mother, while much of the time being a solo parent to their 3 beautiful boys.  She has had the perseverance and fortitude of a small army while fighting as one. There are many trials and unexpected hurdles we may never come to understand in this life... but we should not have to face them alone.

Tasha and I wanted to open this opportunity as a way to keep family and friends informed in the coming days and as a way for
us to rally in support through this very strenuous time. Thank you for your continued prayers and words of encouragement. The response time may be slow but it does not go unnoticed. ❤️
