Knitty City Team

***UPDATE March 18, 2020***
We are so thankful for everyone showing their support! We've decided that once we're open again, we are going to issue store credit for every contribution to our GoFundMe equal to the amount donated. This applies to all donations made thus far and all future donations.

You don't need to do anything right now, you'll be able to claim your store credit either in store or contacting us via email. If you don't live in the New York area, we'll be happy to send you yarn instead. If you don't want to claim a credit, you don't have to do anything - just know how truly grateful we are for your generosity.

Thank you so much everyone! We will get through this #SmallBusinessRelief

To our beloved community,

It is with heavy hearts that Knitty City will temporarily close after Saturday, March 14th. We take great pride and joy in serving our community, but it would be irresponsible of us to keep our doors open in light of the coronavirus.

For a time, Knitty City took a wait-and-see approach regarding the coronavirus. We conducted business as usual waiting for some direction from the government. Considering the nature of the virus to stay hidden in carriers, this is a very dangerous approach. Many of our customers have pre-existing conditions that may make them more susceptible to the virus. It would be a disservice to them if we continue to do business and pretend that it's okay for people to gather - it is NOT okay.

Knitty City is choosing to minimize social contact and we hope you do too. Please carefully consider what you choose to do with your time. Work from home does not mean hang out with your friends. Schools are not closed so that you can go to the movies.

While it's important to embrace your community in times of need, we think it's best right now to embrace figuratively rather than literally. We are blessed to live in the age of the internet. Please take advantage of it and engage each other from the comfort and safety of your own home.

Part of the Knitty City community is our staff, for whom we are always grateful. As a business, we are responsible for making sure they can keep themselves fed and healthy. During this time, we will be paying them for their normal working hours for as long as possible. We know times are chaotic to say the least, but if you have the means and appreciate what we do, please consider contributing to our GoFundMe. The full amount of anything you give will go directly to supporting our staff. Please do not donate if you can't take care of your own well being first. #SmallBusinessRelief

We expect to stay closed for one month until April 13th, but we will keep you updated as events unfold. During this time, if you truly need knitting or crochet supplies, please email us at [email redacted]. We will make our best effort to get what you need from the store and mail it to you. We regrettably won't be able to offer any knitting or crochet help during this time.

Stay safe and stay healthy.

We will miss you,
Pearl, Zac, and the Knitty City Team
