The past two weeks have been very sad and some of the most difficult in all our years in Brooklyn.
We strive to provide an outlet for our community to submerse themselves in music as performed by touring artists from around the world and by local performers from our own back yard. We see some of you once or twice a year, and others almost weekly! And now our doors are closed.
Based on Federal recommendations, all public gatherings have been prohibited, rendering our business obsolete for the foreseeable future. Entire tours have been cancelled as bands make the difficult decision to come off the road. While we are working diligently to reschedule artists (our Fall calendar is going to be incredible!) our venue will remain closed for weeks, if not months.
We say all this to remind you that we have an incredible team of hourly employees who are now, like many others, without work. On average, one show a Knitting Factory takes 8-9 team members from stage hands to lighting and sound to security and bar/cocktail staff to kitchen and cleanup crews.
Though we know it is for everyone's own health and safety, it breaks our hearts that we had to close and thus put our Knitting Factory family members out of work. Many of you have sent messages of encouragement and asked how you can help so we have set up this GoFundMe to provide our employees with financial assistance during this difficult time. We don't know yet how long this closure will last but 100% of these funds will be distributed among our staff. We recognize that it's a difficult time for many industries, not just ours, so we truly appreciate any donations, no matter how small.
Though these are trying times for us, we know with love and support from our community that we will get through this. Wishing everyone affected by this good health through this difficult time.
Thank you for reading and please consider donating.
We miss you all!
