Knees don’t fail me now

Getting close to 50 and my knees have announced that I’m not a young woman anymore, even if everyone tells me I look good for my age.

In November 2020 I was doing some yard chores and while squatting to reach something I felt a searing pain, a snapping pop and toppled over in agony. 

Walk it off, that’s what I always tell myself. I don’t have very good insurance, my social security income was lost on 2016 and Covid is scary enough that I delayed visiting the doctor in person. 

The knee started to swell, bruise and has caused me great pain for months. The doctor was reached through telemedicine and he realized that I had in fact done quite a bit of damage. Normal activities have been reduced completely and every day is started and ended with a lot of crying and unhappiness.

the news- a tear in the medial meniscus, a large tear in the lateral meniscus, cartilage free floating and deterioration of theknee cap, the quadriceps compensating from my limp and getting tendinitis.
hey, let’s throw in a case of gout for morepain and moderate osteoarthritis to ice that cake of misery. 

now that we know what’s wrong and surgery is required I’m left with the stark reality, I don’t have the money to pay the deductible. The surgery center requires fullpayment on the date of the procedure, I’ll need additional items like a scooter for mobility and physical therapy while recuperating. 

usually it’s me giving everyone the shirt off my back, I don’t like to ask for a thing but I don’t know what else to do and I can’t go without repairing this knee any longer.
