My Nina Alex, who is only 47 years old, is currently in hospice care after cancer took over her life for the third time. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and after 10+ sessions of chemotherapy and radiations, she was cancer free in 2015. Then in 2017, the cancer came back and this time around she had a mastectomy on her left breast to remove any chances of the cancer coming back. At last, she was cancer free once again and she was happier than anything to be done with the second round of chemotherapy and radiation for good.
Unfortunately, in March 2018, her right knee began to bother her out of nowhere so she decided to mention it to her doctor. The doctor said it was nothing and did not consider it anything important. A couple weeks later, her entire left arm began swelling up and the doctor said it was "just" due to the second round of chemotherapy and radiation she went through. The doctor's assurance that it was nothing to be worried about allowed for one last family vacation to Cancun in July. Little did we know that it would probably be the last time that Nina Alex would be able to enjoy her days with husband (Gonzalo) and sons (Erick, 20 and Kevin, 15). The swelling on her left arm and the pain on her right knee only got worse during her vacation and once they came back to California in late July, the doctor finally decided to put her through extensive tests. The diagnose was stage 4 cancer with swollen lymph nodes all over her body including her neck, arm, stomach, and knee. In a matter of 2 - 3 months, the cancer took over my nina's ability to do anything on her own. After an attempt to complete a third round of chemotherapy, my nina is now destined to her last breath any day now.
There is nothing worse for the ones closest to her than reliving the endless nights listening to her complain about her pain, feeling absolutely helpless not being able to make the pain go away. She is currently on so much medication that she no longer recognizes most people and is not able to to speak clearly at all anymore. She will remain in her home in an effort to allow her to be as comfortable as possible for what ever time she has left. We will continue giving her the medication prescribed to her until it is no longer necessary. Although only a miracle can save her from the inevitable, we will continue to keep our faith strong and just hope that whatever happens next, she is free from that pain that haunts her.
The money raised in this fund will be used for the pain medications, which are no longer covered since she is in the hospice care program. The remaining funds, will go towards any expenses after her passing. Any dollar donated will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this and learning about my nina's story. En cuestión de 2 a 3 meses, el cáncer se hizo cargo de la capacidad de mi nina para hacer cualquier cosa por su cuenta. Después de un intento de completar una tercera ronda de quimioterapia, mi niña ahora está destinada a su último aliento en cualquier momento.
No hay nada peor para los más cercanos a ella que revivir las noches interminables escuchándola quejarse de su dolor, sintiéndose absolutamente impotente de no poder hacer que el dolor desaparezca. Actualmente toma tantos medicamentos que ya no reconoce a la mayoría de las personas y ya no puede hablar con claridad. Permanecerá en su hogar en un esfuerzo por permitir que se sienta lo más cómoda posible en cualquier momento que se haya ido. Seguiremos dándole el medicamento recetado hasta que ya no sea necesario. Aunque solo un milagro puede salvarla de lo inevitable, continuaremos manteniendo nuestra fe fuerte y solo esperamos que pase lo que pase a continuación, ella está libre de ese dolor que la atormenta.
