Turning my dream into action: Africa child life practicum

Hello! I’m Becky and I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been accepted into a Child Life Practicum in Cape Town, South Africa this summer!

This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will allow me to work directly with children and families in healthcare settings, using therapeutic play, emotional support, and child-centered interventions to help make scary medical experiences feel safe and empowering.

As a future Certified Child Life Specialist, I’m deeply committed to the emotional and developmental needs of children facing hospitalization or serious illness. This practicum is a vital step on that journey—offering me hands-on training, cross-cultural experience, and mentorship that will help shape the kind of inclusive, compassionate care I’ll bring to children from all walks of life.
