My name is Dylan Rush and I am trying to raise money to enable me to attend Harvard’s Pre-College Program for high school students. I would be traveling to Boston on July 9th to take a law course on the use of scientific evidence in the courtroom. In eighth grade, I participated in the National History Day competition, where my project was based on how the mishandling of evidence lead to the over 20-year wrongful conviction of Edward Lee Elmore. This course would allow me to pursue this topic in more depth, within a rigorous and challenging academic setting.
Academic success has always been something I have striven for. Instead of attending a regular high school, I chose to apply to the Scholars Academy – a program meant to accelerate learning for students at a rate and level of rigor commensurate with their abilities. During my time thus far at the Scholars Academy, I have amassed enough credits to enter college with nearly two years completed, allowing me more time to focus on specialized courses. While maintaining an all A record in multiple AP classes, I have also devoted myself to several extracurricular activities, including wrestling, cross-country/track, student government, and volunteer work. As a junior, I have been inducted into all academic National Honor Society organizations and am nearing 150 community service hours. In my past three years, I have learned not only how to be a better student and leader, but also have been prepared for the real world beyond school.
This opportunity to attend Harvard offers me a unique experience that few can claim to have completed. To attend the program, one must receive an invitation as well as complete a detailed application process. When I received my letter of acceptance, I was shocked at being considered from such a large pool of applicants. I take extreme pride in being offered such an opportunity, and will work diligently to capitalize on this experience.
