KLEIN TWINS CDKL5 MEDICAL HELP

IMPORTANT UPDATE 12/27/22: As the Klein’s continue to move through their new family journey with CDKL5 for Ralph and Charlie they’re in desperate need of more funds. As of right now, the Doctors are unable to do anything else for the twins. They would greatly appreciate any help you can spare (big or small) that would go towards the below items. Unfortunately, the Kleins don’t qualify for Medicaid and in Florida, the only financial assistance isn’t available for the twins to sign up for until they are 3 and the waiting list to receive funds is upwards of 10 years. Right now, it's proving to be impossible for Ashley to work with their current condition.

As close friends of Ashley and Derrick Klein, we're asking for your help! This beautiful family of 6 have embarked on a life-altering journey they could never have imagined. They have identical twin boys Charles (Charlie) and Ralph who were diagnosed at 6 months of age (in September of 2021) with an extremely rare genetic deficiency disorder called CDKL5. The twins experience seizures daily and the impact will be great through their adult life with severe intellectual disabilities, vision issues and little or no speech. The development of gross motor skills, such as sitting, standing, and walking, is delayed, or not achieved. Only one-third of those affected can walk independently. Fine motor skills, such as picking up small objects with fingers, are also impaired; about half of those affected have purposeful use of their hands.

 

 

Klein’s daily life has completely flipped upside down and is something none of us could ever imagine happening to our own family or children. The impact on this family has been enormous. Unexpected and continuous medical bills trips to Children’s Hospital in Boston to meet with CDKL5 experts, trying to give their two other children, Otto and Lucia, a normal upbringing, managing through their own grief and mental health to keep it together for their children and marriage.

 

 

The family is facing mounting medical expenses with two children receiving medical treatment, and time away from work. Any donation, large or small, is so appreciated and will make a big difference to the Klein family. Ashley and Derrick are people of faith, so please continue to lift them and their boys in prayer.
