Hello, I am writing you today about a dear friend and very special mother, Rachelle Vargas. She is a single mother of 2 young boys, Dominic 11 & Ruben 9. Her oldest Dominic was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoid Leukemia in 2009 at the age of 6. He had 3 1/2 years of treatment & was in remission for a year when he relapsed. His younger brother was a match for a bone marrow transplant, which was done over the summer. I am sorry to say the transplant was not a success. He has been in & out of the hospital the last few months for nosebleeds & low counts. Rachelle was told the cancer cells went from 1% to 20% & they are aggressive. He was admitted to The Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo on Dec 29 for another round of chemo. The doctors explained to Rachelle that this was all that was left to be done. Dominic received the chemo treatment the first 2 weeks of January and by the 3rd week doctors found the chemo did not work. The cancer cells have progressed to 30% and it is time to move him to hospice. As you can imagine this was devastating news. No parent should ever have to feel the pain of losing a child. So, we are asking today if you could find it in your heart to help with upcoming family expenses. Dominic has been sick half his life but through it all he always has a huge smile on his face.
