Klay & Bandit’s Story

Donation protected
On behalf of my son Klay and the request of a surprising number of people, I’m sharing the tragic story of Klay & Bandit and supporting him as he earns money for another horse and to help cover the vet bills left behind.

Most know the story of Klay losing his Chevy just shy of 3 years ago due to Twisted gut.
After that unavoidable loss, Klay was blessed with a big, beautiful Bay gelding.

His name was Bandit. This horse quickly became Klay’s best friend.
But this wonderful story of a boy and his horse tragically ended too soon.

You see, it was Monday, March 27, 2023. A day that began as any other day.
A beautiful day after a very stormy night.
But how fast that gorgeous day changed as a nightmare so quickly unfolded.

I walked past a window and glanced out.
There was Bandit standing in the edge of the pond. The water cold from the storm that previous night.

Eli went out to feed. It wasn’t long after that my phone rang. It was Eli and he was frantic!
He found the other horses in the hunting field. The problem? Over 100lbs of Wild Game Mix was gone.
Immediately I ran to the window and looked out. There was Bandit, still standing in the pond head hung low.
Immediately I knew, Bandit had eaten it.

I screamed for Klay to get Bandit.
When Klay got near, Bandit turned to go to him, but didn’t make it far.
He was lethargic, very hesitant to move, had diarrhea, was standing like a horse with founder and he was hot.

We immediately got him loaded and told the vet we were on the way.

Bandit was so sick. With vitals showing Heart rate of 84, Temperature of 104, severe dehydration, diarrhea, and his gums showing purple toxic lines. We knew this was going to take a miracle.

The vet threw the book at him, but ultimately said he’s very sick. Let’s just pray we can get him through the night.

I knew in my heart this was it, but we loaded Bandit and brought him home.

We never once left his side. But in the end, it wasn’t enough.
Beautiful, sweet Bandit left us a few hours later. A tragic accident taking a little boys best friend. Leaving his heart shattered. The heartbreak of Klay in that moment is unexplainable.

Bandit had to leave exactly 2 weeks before Klay would recieve his 12th Birthday Gifts. Mostly gifts he had requested for Bandit.
Klay now says he wants no gifts, just to have a horse to love like he loves his Bandit.

Klay is looking for jobs to earn money in order to purchase a horse, but at the request of a surprising amount of people, I’m creating this Go Fund Me.

All proceeds go to help Klay purchase a new horse and to also help with the vet bills from Bandit.

If you can’t give it’s ok! Times are tough, we get it.
But please just pray for Klay’s broken heart.
