SAVE LISA'S LIFE AND BASE

Donation protected
In a small room in Ulkestrup, Denmark, lies a very ill Danish documentary director with an incredibly tragic story, our friend Lisa Klit. So far, Denmark has not taken responsibility for giving her the treatment she desperately needs, despite numerous internationally recognized doctors calling for action.

In a last attempt to make Denmark take responsibility, Lisa has just returned to Denmark after years abroad.
She is now so invalidated and week from her illness that if she doesn't succeed to get help, she simply will not survive.

Lisa Klit and her Dutch husband, René Verlaan, have lost everything in their year-long battle with her illness; their house in Ebeltoft, savings, pension, most private possessions, as well as the production company they successfully ran for 18 years. This is the result of having to pay out of pocket for all the expensive treatments abroad, since Denmark refused her treatment.

A couple of years ago friends and former colleagues also helped raise funds for further treatments, that have kept Lisa alive so far. And for that, Lisa & Rene are eternally grateful. But it is now clear, that for the full holistic and all-round treatment in the long run, Denmark needs to acknowledge their obligations paying and taking responsibility for her treatment.

Therefore, we are making this last but important fund-raising attempt in a race against time. Lisa and Rene’s home in Ulkestrup is the last thing they have left - and the only place they can call home. The home is now to be put up for foreclosure on 22 January 2024, if they cannot pay an amount of DKK 104,000. (€14.000).

Lisa was demonstrably mistreated with immunosuppressive medication by a doctor at the (former) Hamlet Health Facility (Denmark).

Lisa has since been ostracized from the Danish health system, which abandoned her after she became so ill from the faulty treatment process that she was bedridden for the next two years. No one took responsibility until a lot of donors, including the Laudrup family's foundation and colleagues in the television industry, collected money and had her sent to the United States, where she visited experts at Harvard, Stanford etc. Here she was diagnosed with numerous serious infections. This subsequently led to many trips to the USA, and a professional comeback – against all expectations. But Lisa was strangely never welcomed back into the Danish health system again. Rejected on paper when her GP referred her. Allegedly she was even exhibited with her name and picture on a secret Facebook page among Danish doctors. It was clear that Lisa Klit was not just an anonymous patient – she had become a problem.

Lisa had to continue her treatment abroad after Danish doctors overlooked another infection in her body. She was repatriated to Denmark eight times after treatment at some of the world's best university hospitals - and each time she was refused further treatment in Denmark. Therefore, for the past years, she has been lying in the house of her mother-in-law – in an attic in The Hague (Holland), waiting for active euthanasia for a condition that (ironically) can be treated, but for which no Danish doctors will take responsibility. The EU rules dictate that EU countries are only obliged to treat foreigners for emergency conditions. For longer care (and aftercare) the patient must be repatriated to their own country for further treatment. But there it ends up for Lisa, as she is consistently rejected at the Danish hospitals. No one will take responsibility - neither for the error nor for correcting it.

Lisa Klit has now been diagnosed with two severe infections: Osteomyelitis in the jaw and skull, as well as actinomycosis (the latter most likely was already there when she was mistreated in Denmark the first time - which unfortunately gave the infection an opportunity to become invasive/systemic). She has three severe genetic defects in her methyl system, which make it almost impossible to detoxify, and Mast Cell Activation Disorder, which makes her extremely sensitive to everything from food to cleaning agents – a diagnosis that often follows an undetected or incorrectly treated infection. She has never been sick before in her life, and all illnesses are connected, as one sequel after another.

To save her life, it will require an operation on her jaw and skull, 6-8 weeks of hospitalization and 1-2 years of follow-up, during which she will continue with antibiotics at home and immune support at the hospital.

It is the treatment that the internationally recognized specialists have been asking for several years now - and that Denmark should offer her. She herself has no doubt that the right treatment will bring her back to life. She tried before, but relapses without the aftercare. And now she wants to fight one last time to get the Danish healthcare system to take her seriously and take her in. If no solution is found, euthanasia is the only option. For years, Lisa has fought, hoped, and cried out. But now she is totally out of strength.

As the only country in the world, Denmark does not acknowledge Lisa’s diagnose and illness.

The case is now presented for the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, sent by the Dutch authorities. Lisa Klit is – as mentioned – a trained journalist and documentarist, and has therefore secured documentation for the entire process.

But a prerequisite for this fight to be possible at all is that Lisa and Rene do NOT become homeless here in Denmark. And that is why we now want to try our very best to raise some money, so that they can keep their only home left - the only roof above their heads together with the best counselor there is.

They lost everything else, even Lisa’s beloved filmcompany, the taxsystem that should have “caught” Lisa sliding down the system instead swallowed everything she owned, never paying Lisa the allowance/insurance she has the right for or the treatment. It is very clear that the last round has to be with a lawyer, no more very ill Lisa against the system alone. She needs a base, and she needs that strong man/woman who can get Lisa the money she was entitled two for all these years, the lack of treatment and 13 years of her life, which could have been saved by three months of antibiotics, when the mistake was made in Denmark.

Please help Lisa on her last round, to have competent counseling and a base to hopefully give rest. If Denmark admits their mistake, they HAVE to send her to a country with the experience in treating Lisa’s illness which Denmark obviously does not have. By law. What Denmark did is highly illegal, so a lawyer is the only way forward, but has been impossible, when you lived without one single Euro coming in the past four years - only surviving by selling everything from interior, clothing, homes - items which is part of a normal life in a normal country treating their citizens according to law.
