Hi, my name is Jared Miller, and I’m writing this with a heavy heart. My mom, Mary Miller, was recently diagnosed with stage IV cancer that has metastasized from her colon to her brain and lungs. She underwent surgery at UCSF to remove one of the tumors, but there are still more that couldn’t be reached, and her battle is far from over.
My mom is my hero. For over 30 years, she has poured her heart and soul into making life better for others. She’s been the rock of our family as a single mother, working tirelessly to give me and my sister, Meghan, the best life possible. Beyond her role as a mother, she’s spent decades ensuring the safety and well-being of countless students as a Campus Security Guard at our local high school.
Mary isn’t just a security guard—she’s been a mentor, a friend, and a beacon of hope for so many. She has a unique way of connecting with people, making them feel valued and understood. Her presence on campus wasn’t just about keeping the peace; it was about creating an environment where every student and staff member felt safe, seen, and supported. Whether it was staying late to listen to a student’s troubles, attending school events to show her support, or simply offering a warm smile and a kind word, my mom made a difference every single day.
In recent years, she’s taken on the cherished role of grandmother to Meghan’s two young children, ages 4 and 2. Being a grandmother brought her so much joy, and she’s always been a source of love and wisdom for her grandchildren, just as she has been for us.
She’s always been the person others turned to in times of need, offering comfort, guidance, and unwavering support. She gave everything she had to help others and never asked for anything in return. Now, she’s in the fight of her life, and I need your help.
My sister Meghan is balancing the demands of caring for her two young children alongside her husband Hugo, while also trying to be there for our mom as much as possible. The medical bills from her surgery and ongoing treatment are mounting, and the costs of care are overwhelming. We’re not in a position to cover these expenses on our own, and it’s incredibly difficult to ask for help—but right now, I have no choice.
We want to give our mom the chance to keep fighting, to continue being the incredible, strong woman she’s always been. She’s done so much for so many people, and now it’s our turn to help her. If you can donate, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to us. Every bit helps, and every donation gets us closer to covering the treatment she desperately needs.
Even if you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign. Your love, support, and prayers are what will keep us going through this dark time.
We respectfully ask that you please give our family the privacy we need during this difficult period. Our mom needs time to rest and process everything she’s going through. Your understanding and respect mean so much to us.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for supporting my mom, Mary, in her fight. She’s been a protector and a guardian to so many, and now we need to stand by her side.
With all my heart,
Jared Miller
