Update 16 October 2025
Unfortunately, today my dad Brian Chibanguza passed away. I thank you all endlessly for supporting, donating and praying for us during this journey. My dad may now be gone but be had hope and had started his treatment.
Unfortunately with this news the hospital had refused to release his body until we are able to pay off the final bill which currently sits at $19,700. Even if we raise a few hundred pounds its something. Every single penny we get will be going towards getting my dad home so we can lay him to rest. Even for those who cannot donate please just sharing or interacting will go a long way to help us get his body released
Hi, my name is Pamela, and I need help to save my dad. In June 2023, my dad Brian was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, and he needs a bone marrow transplant that could give him back his life.
My dad is 52 years old and is a mechanical engineer by trade, currently living in Zimbabwe. He has 4 kids, with the 3 youngest being 10, 12, and 14, who he currently lives with alongside his wife and my aunt who he has been the primary caregiver of since my grandma (his mom) passed away in August of 2023, as my aunt has Down's Syndrome and requires full time support.
Around the time of his diagnosis, he became bed-bound for about 4 weeks, and with the Zimbabwean medical system extremely limited, we struggled to get him the help he needed. He has been getting chemotherapy treatments every Friday since June 2023, which has been a massive financial commitment but a necessary one. We did our best as a family and all pooled in all our resources to get him his medication, doctors' visits, hospital stays, and chemo treatments. And for some time we were blessed to see him be able to live a relatively normal life again.
Unfortunately, we haven't been able to raise the money for the Bone Marrow Transplant which is the only option that will buy him some real time. He has been on chemotherapy for long that his body is starting to reject the medication and two days ago he needed a blood transfusion. Currently, on some days we can have a conversation and others he barely remembers being conscious and is unable to communicate. He has been in hospital for the last week as his condition rapidly deteriorated and unfortunately if we can't raise the money we are out of options.
Multiple Myeloma is incurable; what I'm asking for is time. Time for my dad to raise his younger kids, time for me to see my dad again, time for him to live and enjoy his life. I have not seen my dad in 15 years since he sent me to the UK when I was 12 years old to make sure I got a good education and had a chance at building a good life for myself. I would like to have him around long enough to take care of him too.
Doctors have said the treatment he needs is a Bone Marrow Transplant. The cheapest place he can get one is in India, and the costs will be as follows:
- Autogolous Stem Cell Transplant: $19,500
- Flights: $1900 (Return for him and his wife who will act as his caretaker for the duration of treatment
- Accommodation: $1000 p/m self catered apartment for the expected 2 month stay
It's a lot of money, I know, but for my dad, I have to try. Even if we only get a portion of what we need that would be a blessing. I have to have faith that we will be able to figure it out and get him his treatment. He has worked so hard his whole life he deserves a chance to keep going.
Not everyone will be able to donate, but if you wouldn't mind sharing this with anyone you know, we might get a little traction, and by some miracle, I believe we can save my dad. I don't want to lose my dad because we couldn't afford the one thing that can keep him alive.
Thank you to everyone who donates, shares, or even just takes the time to read this post. Your support means everything to me, my dad, and my family.
