Roughly five years ago, we found out my mother, Kammie, has a rare disease named Cerebrotendinous Xanthomatosis (CTX). In 2023, she enrolled in a clinical trial in Colorado and began treatment for this disease. Throughout this disease progression, my mom lost significant functioning physically and cognitively. The treatment for this disease was not a cure, but it did slow the progression. Additionally, my mother has had Kidney Disease for nearly my entire life. She had a Nephrectomy in my early childhood, so her body has been functioning with only one kidney for many years. In 2024, my mother was diagnosed with Renal Sarcoidosis. This disease has progressed to the point of total kidney failure. This has led to my mother being placed on hospice care.
Throughout hundreds of doctor visits and many hospital admissions, she has remained in such high spirits despite going through numerous health challenges. To know my mother is to know unconditional love and kindness. Throughout my life, she has been involved in community service. She regularly volunteered at elementary schools throughout Brigham City. She has been an amazing mother to my sister and me, plus a bonus mom to many of our friends.
Due to the cost of end-of-life care, we are starting this GoFundMe in hopes of having a celebration of life that my mother deserves. We would love to raise funds to care for her during her final time on earth and funeral costs after she dies. We truly appreciate all the support people have shown my family over the past 5 years, especially in these last few weeks.
