Chris became ill the middle of January. On January 21st, he went to the emergency room, tested positive for the flu and double pneumonia. His O2 was nearly half a normal level and after numerous attempts to oxygenate him failed, he was intubated and placed on life support. Within a few hours thereafter, he was flown to a higher level of care. The nearest hospital with room in the ICU was Albuquerque, NM.
Chris remains on life support today, still in ICU in Albuquerque... One month later.

Chris is a hard working, lifelong resident of the White Mountains. He resides there with his wife, Jennie Holloway. They have raised their two children there. Chris and Jennie enjoy their lives there and enjoy spending time with their three grandchildren. Chris has always placed his family above all else. They enjoy the outdoors and love to be outdoors fishing, hunting and hiking. And the many intense 10 hour Risk or Ticket to Ride game nights.

At this time, Chris has a tracheostomy and is in kidney failure. He is 100% dialysis-dependent. There is a possibility that his kidney function may return but in the meantime, he will require dialysis several times a week. Due to the fact that he was on significant anesthesia and paralytic medication while intubated, he will require several weeks and months of intensive physical and occupational therapy. In addition, he will need extensive speech therapy.

Chris will soon be placed in a long- term acute care facility for the coming weeks. There are no facilities in the White Mountains to accommodate patients with a tracheostomy and intensive rehab therapy. This would require Chris to go to a facility in Albuquerque or if insurance will allow, bringing him to Tucson. Either way, he will be four hours away from home, making it difficult for his family to be near him.

Chris will be out of work during this time but his health insurance will still need to be paid. In addition to the already mounting medical bills, copays, deductibles, his wife will need assistance with travel expenses and lodging.

Chris is a fighter and has shown us this entire time that he isn't ready to give up. He is improving slowly every single day. His fight isn't over and with the love, prayers and strength of his wife, children, parents, co-workers and friends. All of the love and prayers and healing thoughts have been felt by Chris and his family. Every little bit helps and if you aren't able to donate, please say a little prayer for Chris and his family.
