Help the Velez Family Rebuild After a Devastating Fire

The Velez family has called this house their home for nearly nine years—a place where love, laughter, and cherished memories were meant to grow. It was supposed to be a safe haven for their family of four, a place where their children—a bright and energetic 8-year-old girl and her playful 5-year-old brother—could thrive. If you look closely at the heartbreaking photograph of the aftermath, you’ll see the untouched playground in the backyard, a reminder of the innocence and joy that once filled their lives.

But in the early hours of February 19, 2025, at around 4 AM, their world changed forever.

While the parent, a single father, was away at work, the children and their grandmother were sleeping inside the house, unaware of the tragedy unfolding around them. Suddenly, they woke up to unbearable heat, thick smoke, and flames rapidly consuming their home.

In that moment of chaos and terror, their grandmother became their guardian angel. Fighting through the fear and confusion, she screamed for the children, desperately trying to locate them in the thick smoke. Though shocked and disoriented, the children clung to her as she heroically grabbed the 5-year-old and guided both children to safety, escaping the inferno just in time.

With no time to think, no time to save any belongings, they ran barefoot and in their pajamas to a neighbor’s house, where they called 911. While the neighbor was immensely selfless and opened her home to everyone, all they could do was watch helplessly as the home that held nearly a decade of memories was engulfed in flames.

What They Lost & Why They Need Your Help

The fire destroyed everything—clothes, furniture, toys, family photos, and irreplaceable keepsakes. The children lost their safe space, their beds, their beloved toys. The grandmother lost the home where she created precious memories with them. The family now faces the unimaginable task of rebuilding their lives from scratch.

We are setting up this fundraiser to help the Velez family get back on their feet. They urgently need clothing, essential items, temporary housing assistance, and funds to rebuild their home.
