Pouring Love – Emergency Relief Tip Jar
We have been missing you and each other for nearly two weeks now!
When KJ’s started in 1992 the mission was to: “Pour love, one cup at at time. The idea arose on the heels of a dear friends’ long hospice stay. I thought then, amidst sickness and suffering, what might just help (if only a little) would be meaningful connection and good strong coffee.
Proud to say KJ’s serves both.
Now nearly 30 years later, we’ve has come full circle. The Covid pandemic has humbled an entire planet and we all find ourselves vulnerable and in need of love - in all forms.
Of course the retail food service industry has been uniquely hit with hourly wages gone overnight and Federal assistance unavailable to most (despite the propaganda to the contrary).
As a small business owner my goal is simple; take care of my people as best I can, and preserve just enough to rebuild as soon as possible and ensure I can rehire quickly.
To this end I am reaching out on behalf of our amazingly strong, loyal, & hardworking crew. If you would like to make a donation of any size, to “pour some love” your gift will help our unemployed crew pay for the very basics; food, rent, and utilities. You can designate a particular location (i.e. Kaiser, City Hall, Foothill etc.) or simply donate without designation in which case your contribution will be allocated evenly by hours worked.
To be clear, these donations will go to baristas only. I will not be taking a check until I am fully re-opened and re-staffed. Presently, because most colleges are choosing to go virtual until Fall this will be in Aug/September. I hope!
E-gift cards are also available for future use:https://squareup.com/gift/17Q706AREWKW2/order?external_source=giveandgetlocal
This is hard but I am inspired by the outpouring of love, compassion, and community. Mostly hoping you are each staying healthy and strong. Amidst the mayhem, the world is pouring love.
Thank you for supporting our team. We can’t wait to serve you again soon. Stay safe, sane & sanitized
With gratitude – Katherine Johnson (Bailey), owner KJ’s Cafe
