Help Kiwi get her amputation
Donation protected

she’s an amazing, sweet lazy loaf who is now referred to by our son as “wee wee”.
our sweet girl took a bad jump from our back stairs. What we thought was a torn dew claw swelled & we took her into the first (of several called) clinic we could reach. Upon seeing her we got X-rays & discovered a broken toe & dislocated bone. Normally a splint could help however when she woke from anesthesia Kiwi put her paw down & her bone came through. Now we have a compound fracture to add to it.
After hours of calls from Richmond and all of our area trying to find a solution, the best option is amputation. Due to the nature of the trauma a medical surgery to fix the paw would be upwards of 8k not including walking cast & post op visit. That’s just a big “if” there too w healing & how painful it can be.
With multiple recommendations for amputation we have scrambled to cover the cost but it was still upwards of 2k for the ONE vet we could find to cover it. (Covid times are hard for vets..)
This year I lost my main source of income after any covid relief payments were given. After that I had a severe allergic reaction that caused me yo have an extra 2 month recovery to get back to working, which has left us struggling to pay an unexpected freak accident like this.
Our families only other option is to surrender Kiwi to the SPCA, knowing they will provide the care she deserves. It’s heartbreaking to think we have to part with our girl so we are on here asking for help.
Edited: we were connected with a wonderful group called compassion for canines who are helping us get Kiwis amputation surgery scheduled for THIS Monday!
I am overwhelmed with support especially when I felt I was at a dead end. I can’t thank anyone enough for what this means for our sweet girl & us.
any funds leftover will be appropriately used to any follow up appointments/aftercare & making sure our baby adjust & paying towards the credit card loans taken out to get other opinions on her best option outside of euthanizing that so many suggested.
