Hi Everyone my name is Jennifer , and I’m the proud (and very grateful) owner to our sweet boy, Kitty, who recently went through an emergency that could have cost him his life.

Kitty’s Story:

Kitty found his way into our lives on January 12th,2023 during one of the coldest days of the winter. He was one of the many strays I feed around our apartment complex, but that day he wouldn’t stop meowing and It was freezing, I couldn’t bear to leave him outside. I brought him in and started trying to find him a home, like I’ve done with other strays in the past. But no one came forward. And over time, we fell completely in love with him.

If you know me, you know I have a deep love for animals especially the strays who don’t have a voice. So far, I’ve helped six stray cats find loving homes, and I still feed the strays in my neighborhood every day. It’s something I care deeply about. Kitty was one of those strays but now, he’s part of our family.

He’s not just a pet he’s our companion. He is family !He’s the kind of cat who greets you at the door every time you come home, climbs onto my husband’s shoulders just to be close to him, and fills our home with love, cuddles, and pure joy.

The Emergency-

On Tuesday April 22nd  Kitty developed a life-threatening urinary blockage, a condition that can quickly become fatal in male cats. At around 10 he started growling while trying to urinate in his litter box I called a 24 hour vet they said to immediately take him took him to the emergency vet, where we got the devastating news  Kitty had a life-threatening urinary blockage, a condition that’s unfortunately very common in male cats due to their narrow urethras.

The vet found that Kitty’s bladder was extremely full and blocked with crystals, which were preventing him from being able to urinate at all. Without immediate treatment, this condition can become fatal in just a short amount of time.

He had to be sedated right away and catheterized to flush out the blockage and relieve the pressure in his bladder.

Thanks to the amazing care he received, from veterinary emergency group in Alexandria Va Kitty is now stable and recovering he still needs close monitoring and follow-up care to make sure he heals fully

Unfortunately, despite all efforts and follow-up care, he started having trouble urinating again. After further evaluation, the vet explained that he was likely in the early stages of becoming blocked once more. At that point, we were given two options: to move forward with Perineal Urethrostomy (PU) surgery, or to consider euthanasia if his condition worsened and became untreatable. While it was a difficult decision, we knew we had to give him a real chance at a pain-free life. As of April 25, 2025, he is undergoing PU surgery—a procedure that removes the narrowest part of the male cat’s urethra and creates a new urinary opening to help prevent future blockages. Though it’s a major surgery, it’s often the best long-term solution for cats facing recurring urinary issues.

Why We’re Asking for Help:

The total cost of Kitty’s emergency care and treatment came to $4,600 for his ER only We’ve created this GoFundMe to help cover those medical expenses and make sure Kitty continues to get the care he needs.

If you’re able to donate or even just share his story, we are so incredibly grateful. Kitty came into our lives unexpectedly, but he’s brought us endless love and joy and we’re just so thankful he’s still here with us today.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, support, and love for animals like Kitty.

With love,
Jennifer Acosta
