Kitty's End of Life Care

This week I got the news that Kitty has cancer and not too much longer to go. She's barely been eating even her favorite foods.
We’ve got some medications coming to hopefully extend her time and make her comfortable but the clock is officially ticking. 

Kitty is my first cat - she is responsible for making me a cat person - something that has since become a huge part of my identity.

She’s been with me for 17 years (since 2005) so I knew this day would come but it doesn’t make it any easier.

 

 

I hate asking for help but (like most people) I live paycheck-to-paycheck and don't have an emergency fund. I try to live a pretty frugal life these days, I sold my car this year (to cut down on bills), I don’t go out much (post-pandemic) but I live alone and rent in Portland ain’t cheap.

 

We just lost my other cat, Penny, in October and honestly, I’m still recovering from her end-of-life expenses. My credit cards are all maxed out, my bank account is overdrawn (after yesterday's vet visit) and I just want to make sure Kitty has the most comfortable experience possible. She’s terrified of car rides and vet visits so I’m really hoping to do an at home euthanasia, like we did for her sisters. She has been with me through all life’s highs and lows. Whenever I’m crying from the loss of a loved one, she comes to snuggle with me; even when I was crying about her today, she even hobbled over to cheer me up. 

 

I love this girl with all my heart and I don’t want my brokenness to prevent her from having the most comfortable passing possible.
