A Wag dog attacked my cat, Wag refuses to help
My four year old cat April was attacked by a one year old, male, large dog (Corwin) on Saturday, February 29th around 10:15am.
I work for Wag dog walking, sitting, and boarding. I’ve done over 70 bookings with Wag, many of them in my home with April. But not soon after I got Corwin in my apartment he had rushed past me, cornered April in the back of my kitchen, mauled, and bit her in the stomach. I immediately got a hold of Corwin pulling on him to let go. “Let go of my cat!” I screamed frantically as my first attempt leaves me falling backwards, collapsing into the wall behind me. My eyes never leave them as Corwin thrashes April to the ground. Time is moving incredibly slowly for me the entire time my best friend’s life is in danger. This time I put my hands straight in Corwin’s mouth and pull back, bloodying my hands, but thankfully making enough space for April to get away.
I put Corwin in my bedroom where I’ve already set up his food, water, and toys and close the door. I find April hiding under the living room couch, silent, still, and bleeding a lot. I try to remain calm though at this point I don’t feel anything. I gently pull back the couch so I can reach her and I set down her beloved cat backpack facing her and wide open. For the first time my eyes well up with tears as she slowly scoots into the backpack leaving a pool and trail of blood behind her as she moves. I zip up the backpack and walk her directly to Inwood Animal Clinic where they rush her into surgery, have me sign a $1300 estimated payment agreement. And tell me they will call me.
After the surgery I found out she suffered a broken rib, a torn stomach, and severe rips and bruising to her abdomen. She was extremely lucky, several vital organs were less than inches away from areas that were badly torn up. The doctors inform me that she is still in critical condition and send me to the Blue Pearl 24 hour critical care center on West 55th street.
After two days of cleaning her incisions, monitoring her vitals, and managing her pain I’m completely drained of funds. The bloodwork, medicine, and professional care at this point now totals the goal of this go fund me, $7823. I had to urge the care center to let me take her home even though they say she is not out of the woods yet. Because of lack of funds I’ve chosen to care for April at home for the time being and am staying vigilant for signs of her having difficulty breathing, a lack of appetite, and/or running a fever.
I still have several vet visits to go that I have no money for, so here I am begging you to help me, and if you can’t please share our story. Wag has turned their back on us and so far I’ve received nothing from the dog owner. The money I receive here will go towards the medicalfees and if there is no cooperation from either Wag or Corwin’s owner, legal fees.
Thank you for your time, I hope your week has been better than mine.
Love,
April & Jeff
(you can read on if you want, I’ll tell you how April and I met)
When I first met April she was the grumpiest, shyest, cat of the bunch. As several kittens including her were let out of their cages she climbed on top of the cage to defend her new found private spot. I quickly noticed her hair was falling out and that she had no friends. I reached out to pet her, she sniffed my hand, and lowered her head to let me. That was the only warm interaction I had with her that day but I knew that she was supposed to be my cat. I love her so much, please help us if you can.
We’ve been together over three years now. She won’t admit it, but she loves me too.
