Hello everyone,

To say these last 24 hours have been exhausting would be an understatement. About a week ago, I rescued a new kitten who had been living as a stray. Today, he went in for his first round of vaccines, and during that visit we discovered he had severe wounds on his tail (as shown in the photos).

Unfortunately, we don’t know how this happened. He is a strictly indoor kitten and my other cats are extremely gentle with him. Over the week we’ve had him, we noticed he was very fixated on his tail, we believe he likely had a prior injury that began healing, but he continued to chew at it to soothe the pain. We were initially advised that ointment and a cone should be sufficient.

When we got home, the day took another turn. One of my other cats developed heavy mucus and an irritated eye, and we took her to the vet as well, since she was previously diagnosed with feline calicivirus as a kitten. By this point, vet bills were already adding up quickly.

Later that night, our kitten’s tail began bleeding significantly more. The cone wasn’t doing its job… instead of preventing contact, it was rubbing against the wound and causing further irritation. He was clearly in pain and declining, so we rushed him to the emergency vet, hoping they could clean and bandage the injury.

Heartbreakingly, we found out that ointment and a cone would not help heal the tail at all, we were told that the only option to save him was tail amputation. While this was incredibly difficult to hear, we know it is what’s best for his health and quality of life. That’s when the largest bill of the day hit us.

I would do absolutely anything for my baby, but this has been a very overwhelming and financially difficult situation. I created this GoFundMe to help cover half the emergency surgery, veterinary exams, aftercare, medications, and everything in between for my kittens last minute emergency visit.
