Wilma needs urgent support for a rare condition

Wilma came to us after being taken to a vet and at first we thought she had wobbly kitten syndrome (cerebellar hypoplasia). Cats with this condition can often live a happy life without it worsening over time.

As we had no history on her, we took her to our vet for tests to rule out other neurological issues. Thankfully, everything came back clear. In our care Wilma was eating, drinking, playing and moving around well despite being wobbly, she seemed happy.

Then one night she had a seizure-like episode in her sleep. We trialled medication, but instead of improving, she quickly went downhill and had to be rushed to the emergency vet. They referred her to a neurology specialist, as at that point we didn’t know if it was a reaction to the medicine or a decline in her condition.

The next day, the specialist team carried out an MRI scan. This revealed that Wilma has a compression in her spinal cord and causing her wobbliness. They also took x-rays to get a better look there are no breaks, but the compression could be the result of trauma or something she was born with.

Their surgical team discussed the possibility of fixing the issue, but it’s complicated and risky. Spinal surgery always carries significant risks, and Wilma is very small only around 6 months old. Plus she is still growing. This condition is also rare in cats and is more often seen in dogs.

The next step is a CT scan to see if surgery is even possible. Today, Wilma is back at the vets for more imaging so they can make a plan to help her. Please wish her luck.

We are happy to say since stopping the meds Wilma is back to her original wobbliness and doing well .

Wilma has had her surgery now in total it's all come to £11,201.18
She is the sweetest soul and truly deserves a chance.

If you would like to donate towards Wilma’s care, it would mean the world. Every pound helps us get closer to giving her the healthy, happy future she deserves.
