Hello! If you don't already know me, my name is Kit and I am a 23-year-old disabled person.
As I am unable to work and therefore am not afforded the same securities as others, I have been slowly building my own tiny home in order to obtain a safe, clean, stable environment for myself for the remainder of my life. I have almost completed my home but have run into some difficulty with my disability and lack of sufficient funds to complete these last elements of my home. I need to complete these elements in order to access a necessary medical tool which my care team has been pressuring me to acquire, a service dog. I have been recommended a service dog since I was in my early teens but have not been in the position I am now where I am able to access a service dog.
To purchase a service dog, it will cost me $3,000. The tasks my service dog will provide to me will allow me to:
- Go more places, including but not limited to doctor's appointments, visiting friends and family more frequently, going to the dump, grocery shopping.
- Alert me to and disrupt oncoming flashbacks and dissociative episodes which take hours of every day and leave me so exhausted I'm unable to accomplish anything besides the absolute bare minimum self-care for myself.
- Increase my quality of life substantially, which completing my home will also contribute to.
But in order to safely acquire my greatly needed service dog, I need to complete the building of my home, which I need some assistance in achieving now that my disability has flared up. In order to accomplish these final elements (walls, floors, bathroom, exterior finishes such as a safe entryway), I believe I will be able to complete with $2,000.
I do my best every day to provide myself with an environment which is conducive to healing and improving my poor quality of life. Sadly, there is only so much I can do on my own as a young disabled person and so I am forced to ask for help from those I love most. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for any assistance you are able to provide.
I would be so grateful for your assistance in this, as I am so close to being able to live a peaceful, quiet life where I am able to heal.
