KitCat Needs Dental Care

Donation protected
Hi Neighbors,
This is KitCat a very sweet cat considering he is a
Feral cat who adopted me on a stormy – thunder and lightning, windy and rainy night 7 Thanksgivings ago this November.
He arrived with an injured leg but wouldn’t let anyone close enough to
pick him up and take him to Nine Lives to see if he had a chip or examine his leg. I finally trapped him and took him to Nine Lives to be examined, neutered, vaccinated and since he didn’t have a chip – get chipped. He has lived on my porch ever since – through the coldest wettest winters and hottest summers, raccoons and unleashed dogs. I’ve taken KitCat to the vet every year for his yearly physical and vaccinations as well as a few “urgent care” first aid issues. Those were all in the under $350 price range and I massaged my budget to cover those expenses. This year’s physical revealed that KitCat will need a tooth (maybe 2) extracted. I asked for an estimate and received a quote for $1,635.02 - $3,418.29.
This is way more than I can afford to pay and so I am hoping to get some help to cover the costs.
I have researched pet insurance – and they all exclude pre-existing conditions. I have called Nine Lives – they do not offer dental care.
The Peninsula Humane Society only offers spay, neuter and vaccines.
I have called several other Veterinary Clinics - all with the approximate same price quotes. Even the veterinary school at UC Davis would be more expensive because they don't allow students to perform extractions - only board certified vets, and they are a very specialized veterinary hospital.
We do have an appointment with the San Francisco SPCA in a couple of weeks, but I don't know if KitCat that wait that long. He is barely eating and not coming out of his outdoor shelter very often to greet the many neighbors, especially children, who walk by daily and like to stop and pet him.
I know one option is to surrender KitCat to an agency that would perform the extractions and then might be able to find him a family, but I would hate to do that to this little “Neighborhood Goodwill Ambassador”. Thank you in advance for your generous support.
**Update** September 12. KitCat went to his pre-op appointment this afternoon and had his blood and urine samples taken for a geriatric full panel. Upon receiving the results we will be able to hopefully schedule his dental procedure. We want to thank everyone for the donations and kind comments. I will keep you all updated regarding the procedure.
