For those of you who don't have the pleasure of knowing Kokomo (and those of you who do), she is a precious, 11 month-old Samoyed puppy that is always asking for cuddles and hugs. Her hilarious quirks and personality make anyone who meets her fall in love and she never fails to bring a smile to your face. She is truly unique and her being so young only motivates me to do everything possible to ensure she lives a happy healthy life, despite her condition.
A little back story on her condition:
Kokomo had a seizure Saturday night that revealed a severe case of Hypocalcemia, a calcium deficiency in which Koko had a level of .1, a deadly level and the lowest the vet had seen in their entire career. She was rushed to the ER, miraculously survived, and has been hospitalized for 3 nights since, getting treatment, calcium injections, overnight monitoring, and other procedures.
It is 99% confirmed that she has a very rare condition called Hypoparathyroidism (parathyroid regulates calcium and phosphorous) and the vets are doing everything in their power to stabilize Koko’s calcium levels for take home. Her case is severe and rare (they have never had a case of Hypoparathyroidism) so vets are currently attempting to get Koko healthy enough to provide the proper treatment for her in the comfort of her home! The condition is incurable and will require a mixture of calcium supplements and medications on the daily to keep her happy, healthy, and stable for the rest of her life. While the condition is so rare, we will be gaining plenty of information and research that could potentially help other sick doggos out in the future. :)
Her owners Katy and Jordan are absolutely devastated and the medical expenses have racked up to well over $10,000. Katy was forced to take out a loan to cover the immediate medical expenses. While the cost of everything is tragic, the grief of losing such a special and young pup would be even more heartbreaking. I have decided to start this go fund me to help two of my dearest friends out in such a devastating time. Koko is their world and plays such a pivotal role in their lives. She is destined for great things and it is NOT her time to go.
She loves running amok with her wolf pack (cousins) and misses her best kitty friend and housemate Pico De Gato.
She likes to consider herself a well-established model
