Kismet: 9 Million Views, One Dream

Mission Statement
I'm a big fan of romantic comedies, I wanted to see a light-hearted comedy about lesbians. Another inspiration to make Kismet was lack of visibility. There were no lesbian romantic comedies featuring two Black leads.

The Story
Do you believe in soul mates? Do you blush at the end of the movie when the couple finally get together?

Yes, I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for all thing romance- books, music and of course movies.

So, imagine my disappointment when I searched lesbian rom coms and couldn’t find one with women who looked like me.

That lack created Kismet.

Kismet tells the story of heartbroken Jessica meets the charismatic Jada one fateful day. Reluctant to give anyone new chance, even Jessica had to admit that there was something to how they kept meeting. An unpleasant surprise puts the flame out of their budding romance, but will they find themselves back together.

The Characters:

Jessica- is uptight. She believes in order and in hitting certain milestones by a certain point in life. She’s a woman who wants it all: successful career, family, and friends. While she wants the family, her career has taken priority.

Jada- is just as ambitious as Jessica, but she’s more laid-back. She believes in working hard and playing hard as well. She is more masculine to the very feminine Jessica.

Christian- is just as uptight as Jessica. She is more balanced than Jessica, believing that family is the most important thing someone can have. She believes Jessica needs to reevaluate her life.

Evelyn- is Jessica’s mother and a recent divorcee. Her husband left her for her best friend; she’s just gotten over being bitter. She has started dating again and doesn’t want to see her daughter lose so much time being bitter. She is straightforward and provides comic relief.

Nico and Amber- are Jessica’s best friends. Amber is aloof but sweet. Nico is snarky but likable. They provide comic relief.

Mickey – is Jada’s outlandish best friend.
