Kisiizi Hospital Fundraiser UCDVO - Lucy Guinan
Donation protected
My name is Lucy Guinan. I’m originally from Waterford and I’m currently in my second year of studying a BSc in Human Nutrition in UCD. This summer, I am travelling to Uganda for 4 weeks with UCD Volunteers Overseas to provide nutritional support in Kisiizi Hospital.
I have a passion for nutrition and the opportunity to help those in a community less fortune than my own would be an insightful and meaningful experience. The chance to gain new skills and use the knowledge I have learned during my studies and to apply them in a clinical setting would be an invaluable experience.
Church of Uganda Kisiizi Hospital is a not-for-profit health care provider, in rural Rukungiri district, southwest Uganda. The hospital consists of six wards - Surgical, Maternity, Medical, Isolation, Paediatric, and Psychiatric as well as an outpatient department / A&E, a full rehabilitation department with an attached long-term patient rehabilitation ward. There are numerous other services at the hospital such as community-based outreach clinics, vaccination programmes, rehabilitation programmes, a HIV and antiretroviral treatment centre and a community health insurance project
A group of volunteers and a clinical tutor will assist staff from the Kisiizi Hospital in a Community/Paediatric Rehab programme, consisting of a 2-week intensive therapy programme for children with Cerebral Palsy, malnutrition community outreach visits and education activities, and engagement with the hospital’s nutrition programme.
My goal is to raise €1,450. The majority of funds raised for Kisiizi Hospital will be directed towards the hospital’s rehab programme, including staff costs and essential equipment. Funds raised will also cover the cost of accommodation, food, water and transport during the volunteer project. Flights and vaccinations are not included in the fundraising goal.
All donations are appreciated !
