Dennis' Final School Year Fees Appeal

Donation protected
With six more months of training, Dennis would be able to finish his one-year program, obtain a certificate and find a job that he is passionate about - computer repair and maintenance.

Unfortunately, his funder has been impacted by the pandemic and is unable to continue support of Dennis' dream. He is not asking for a lot, just a small amount enough for him to complete his training.

Here's a letter from Dennis to you (breakdown of the funding usage included):

---

Hello everyone,

My name is Dennis Kirumira. I am 26 years old and I live in Kitengesa, Masaka City/District in Uganda. I am wondering if you may support me to finish the last 6 months of my training in computer repair & maintenance.

I have been working with Kitengesa Community Library  since 2011 when I got a library scholarship to work at the library 8 hours a week in exchange for my tuition to be paid at the nearby secondary school, Kitengeesa Comprehensive Secondary School.

After High school, I was lucky that the library continued to pay my fees at Uganda Martyrs University where I pursued a Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology for two years 2014-2016 and in turn I could work at the Library for 3 days a week as an Assistant Librarian.

While at the library, I engaged in its several activities including Computer lessons for community members, English literacy lessons for the Women’s group, the Ugandan Sign Language club, and reading sessions for primary school children from the nearby community schools and I was a member of the Kitengesa Youth Leadership Team (https://kitengesayouthleadership.wordpress.com/about/) and several other projects/ activities. Through these events I realize how much I enjoy helping others to solve technological difficulties.

After graduation in early January 2017, I started looking for relevant jobs. Yet, after long time of searching, I got several petty and low wage jobs, and some employers defaulted paying for several months. After sometime of job searching my friends Michael & Rosemary advised me to go back to school and take a practical course related to the Diploma in Computer Science & Information Technology I hold at University.

Later in 2019, I was lucky that a friend of ours from the United States volunteered to pay part of my tuition and I could pay for the other half. I enrolled at St. Joseph Vocation & Technical Institute, Kitovu-Masaka for a one year Course in Computer Repair & Maintenance and studied up to March 2020 when the Country was put under lockdown and schools closed because of Coronavirus.

As a result of the pandemic, our friend informed me that she was unable to continue paying part of my fees because of the financial constraints she was facing up to now. I was supposed to go back to school by September when the Government allowed schools with final year students to go back and finish their courses, however, due to the financial constraints, I was unable to. But after several consultations with the school administration, I was informed that many students were also unable to come back to school to complete their courses, so they will be given the chance next year when all school & all students are back in schools to come and finish their courses.

I was left with just 6 (six) months of my course and had to pay;

1)    School fees of Ugshs. 2,500,000 (USD 695)

2)    Used Laptop (but in good condition) of Ugshs. 800,000 (USD 223) (as the school requires of all students to have for some course units)

3)    Other School functional fees and National Council of High Education fees: Ugshs. 900,000 (USD 250)

TOTAL: Ugshs. 4,200,000 (USD 1,168)

If I am able to get USD 1,168 (Ugshs. 4,200,000), I will be able to go back to school, finish my course and get a better job as my friend Rosemary and Michael have been trying to connect me to several jobs in the same course, but because I have not go my certificate yet, some employers turn me down because of that.

I kindly ask you my dear friends, to aid me finish this course so that I can be able to secure myself a job and be self-independent.

Thank you so much for taking time to read, donate and share my fundraiser.

Do not forget to share with your friends and family in case you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser will do much as well.

May God bless you all!
