My name is Preeta Samarasan. My friend Kiru was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2023.

Kiru is a person of deep intelligence, considerable artistic talent, and immense dignity. He has a lovely wife and a young daughter just starting school. Before this illness, he was independent and active. Today, his life has changed drastically. Due to the progression of Parkinson’s, he is now on prolonged illness leave and is no longer able to work, drive, or function independently. Even daily tasks have become a struggle.

According to his doctors, Kiru urgently requires a Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery—a specialised procedure that can significantly improve his quality of life, reduce symptoms, and help him regain some level of independence. The Malaysian government hospital has a long waiting list of patients, and the waiting period for this surgery is 1.5 to 2 years. By then, the progression of Kiru's disease might make him ineligible for Deep Brain Stimulation.

The full cost of the surgery, hospitalisation, and treatments will come to about RM220,000 (please see attached letter from hospital), which I have converted to Euros using today's exchange rate (4th April, 2026) as GoFundMe does not support donations in ringgit.

Despite our efforts to raise funds through a Facebook campaign and personal networks, the amount collected so far is still far from sufficient.
