Kirsten’s Battle with CIDP

Hello all, my family and I are trying to raise funds for our mother, Kirsten. As most know, our family doesn't ever reach out for much, but at this point in time, we have decided we need help to support our mom, Kirsten.

In February, our lives changed in a way we never could have imagined.

It started with something small just a gradual numbness and tingling in my mom’s hands and feet. At first, it didn’t seem like anything serious. But within weeks, it quickly progressed into severe nerve pain, especially at night, making it nearly impossible for her to rest. Soon after, muscle weakness began to take over starting in her legs and slowly moving up into her arms and upper body.

What began as uncertainty turned into a series of hospital stays, tests, and difficult conversations. Doctors initially believed she might have Guillain-Barré syndrome, and she was admitted for treatment. After a brief discharge, she was readmitted again and eventually transferred to a rehabilitation facility, where she worked incredibly hard for two weeks trying to regain her strength and independence.

But just as we hoped things were improving, everything took another turn. Over the weekend of April 9th, her condition worsened again. Determined to get answers, we brought her to Lincoln to seek a new perspective from a specialized neurology team.

Since this most recent admission, our mom’s condition has declined significantly. She now requires full assistance just to move. After further testing, we finally received a diagnosis: Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP).

CIDP is a rare autoimmune disease that affects the nerves and requires lifelong management. This means ongoing treatments, medications, therapy, and the possibility of future hospital stays during flare-ups. The road ahead will not be easy it will be long, challenging, and uncertain. But if there’s one thing we know about our mom, it’s that she is strong.

Our goal now is simple: to help her get back to the life she loves.

She lives for her family especially the 5 children she has raised over all of the years. They’re all now growing and going through so many milestones that she isn’t wanting to miss out on. She now has new grandbabies she has been blessed with over the past few years. She dreams of being able to hold them, play with them, and be present in all the little moments that mean so much. She longs to return to her happy place the beach and to spend summer days out on the boat, soaking in the sunshine and making memories with the people she loves most.

If you know our mom, you know her heart. She is one of the most hardworking, selfless, and caring people you will ever meet. She has always put others before herself, showing up for everyone in their time of need without hesitation.

Now, it’s our turn to show up for her.

We are asking for your support to help cover the ongoing medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and the care she will need throughout this journey. Every donation, every share, and every prayer means more to our family than we can express.

Thank you for standing with us and for helping us bring our mom one step closer to healing, strength, and the life she loves.
