Unfortunately our worst fears have came true — this July Kirk received the news that his sarcoma cancer has returned. When going for a routine chest X-ray, the doctors noticed spots on his scan. We were told it could be nothing and that a CT scan would give us more information. When we found out for certain that his cancer has spread and those spots were actually tumours forming throughout his lungs, we just could not believe the news. And not too far after a biopsy confirmed that they were all in fact cancerous and that he had another hard road ahead. Kirks cancer has been diagnosed as stage 4 and with the quantity/size of tumours and lack of space in the lungs they are unable to remove them. He will have to undergo multiple weeks of chemo to try to shrink the tumours so they can possibly operate. We were told there is no guarantee the chemo treatments will work, and unfortunately that is our current reality. Kirk took the news as anyone would, he obviously felt very deflated and frustrated with his diagnosis. As almost a year ago to the week is when his life changed forever and since then he was just starting to get back on his feet. We have spent the last few months as a family trying our best to come to terms with it all, and doing what we can to keep Kirk in good spirits. We never thought it would ever come back, not to mention this quickly... “It just does not feel like real life.” is all we could keep saying to one another. After weeks of coping, Kirk and all of us decided that this is his fight to lose and he wanted to give it all he has. Since then he has remained very positive and the people to thank for that is Cory, Liv and their beautiful family, because of them he continues to stay hopeful and busy spending lots of time fishing, going to church and playing with their two girls (Clara and Elsie), they light up his life. We also as a family are trying to plan as many small trips and activities we can to give Kirk things to look forward to, of course it’s hard during covid and we also understand that not everyone can help out during these times of absolute uncertainty. But all we are truly asking for are your hopes and prayers. This go fund me the last time around played a huge role in Kirks recovery and boosting his overall morale. With your kind words and messages he felt like he had a whole community behind him (because he did) and if we can remind Kirk of that, I think that will make his upcoming fight maybe just that little bit easier. As his sister, being so far away is certainly not easy, I do have my days and I wish more than anything I could be home full time but I do not worry about him as much because of the amazing people he has around him. We are so extremely lucky to have so many great friends and family during times like this. Speaking of which, another very important person who i’d like to give a shoutout to is our mom, she has been his full time nurse and live in support system throughout this whole journey. She has had to miss a lot of work in order to drive back and forth to Toronto to ensure he doesn’t miss any appointments or chemo treatments. Thankfully because of her he can continue to get the best possible care by Dr. Ferguson and his amazing team. I am really not sure what any of us would do without her. So please, help me help them get through this. Any love and support would be very much appreciated. Let’s show Kirk that he has the strength to fight this again, and that he not alone. Thank you so very much in advanced for all the good vibes we hope you will send his way! ❤️❤️
