Hello! My name is Jenny and this fundraiser is for my cat Kirby.

Kirby is an 11-year-old distinguished gentlemeow. We have bonded since he was a little furbaby in 2011, along with his sibling Mocha. They are my first furballs and have been together with me ever since!

On the morning of Dec 4th, 2022, Kirby refused to eat and wasn't his usual energized self. He was howling and vomiting the previous evening. I tried to call vets/animal hospitals for Kirby to be seen immediately without luck. We could not wait. He was then rushed to VERG (ER) where they diagnosed him with a fatal Bladder Rupture. He had to be treated or he was going to die. I was given both a low and high estimation of $6252. I tried for care credit and scratchpay and was rejected for both. Kirby needed to be stabilized as soon as possible. I resorted to putting that huge amount on my credit card.

Kirby was initially given anesthesia and had a urethral catheter inserted to drain his bloody urine. He required further monitoring and a 2-day stay at the clinic. During his stay, the vet found multiple full-sized stones in Kirby and needed to perform a surgical procedure called a Cystotomy to remove them. This was suggested to be done soon as possible before the stones would re-enter his bladder again. The ER quoted me an additional $6600 for the surgery. I could not afford the total estimate of $11,000 in total (stabilize his condition from bladder rupture and the surgery). I decided to look for another veterinarian and searched for grants that could help.

Luckily, I found an amazing grant that helped cover most of the surgery cost (I paid $500) and also connected me to a wonderful veterinarian that was willing to do the surgery on the 12th of December. Thankfully Kirby's surgery was a success! He is currently in his recovery period of 2-4 weeks. Post-surgery, the vet found a terminal condition present in him called hyperthyroidism. To maintain his health, medication will be required to help his thyroid for the rest of his life.
