I remember the dress that did it. Velvet with large gold and purple tinted flowers, poofy shoulders, very appropriate for a little girl's piano recital. Unlike the shirt I desperately wanted to wear: white button down with different brass and jewel buttons for every button hole. Much more in the style of the Not Girl I knew myself to be.
I remember a particular day at Kinder Care, the teachers had all of us head outside and separate into boys and girls. Feeling very certain I didn't belong in either category, I snuck back inside and walked the perimeter of the giant, shape-filled rug in the playroom. I was singing twinkle twinkle to myself, more content to be by myself, as myself.
I have had really clear ideas about my gender since as far back as I can remember. For the past nearly 10 years, I've been following Dr. Scott Mosser and his Gender Confirmation Center, waiting for the day I'd be ready to pursue my own gender affirming surgeries. Well, friends, the time is here! My surgery date is 9/27, right around the corner! Like most trans people, I will have to pay for a large portion of this surgery out of pocket, even though it is a life saving and medically necessary procedure. I'm asking my friends to help me finally realize this literal lifelong dream.
I will need to raise about half the cost of the surgery, which will be $11,500 total. If I can raise $5000, my surgery will go ahead as planned! But I can't do it without you.
I truly can't wait for this to happen. I'm inviting you to join me along the final stretch.
So much love,
Kirby
