Kira Hogan-Burns : Traumatic Cerebral Bleed (ICH)
Donation protected
On January 21, 2019 Kira Hogan-Burns suffered a traumatic brain hemorrhage, or a cerebral bleed (Intracerebral hemorrhaging or ICH). This is a localized bleeding that occurs within the brain tissue or ventricles. A variety of reasons can lead to an artery bursting causing ICH. This is an extremely serious condition - 44% of people who are affected by this die within the month of it being discovered. A good outcome occurs in about 20% affected. We are deeply praying that Kira falls in this 20%.
Kira remains in the ICU at the University Hospital in Madison, WI. Unfortunately her right arm and right leg are unresponsive. the best way to describe it is - the "power cord" from her leg and arm is "unplugged" from her brain. This will require long term care and rehabilitation.
Kira was born a month early on July 25, 1984 only weighing 4.5 pounds she was a FIGHTER then and she's a FIGHTER now! Kira is a loving Aunt to one Niece who attends middle school in Muskego and a Nephew who loves her all the same. She also helps with the caregiving of her grandmother who suffered a stroke. Kira is a fun loving and caring person who is very outgoing and who loves action sports like rock climbing, wake-boarding, and snowboarding! We pray that one day she will be able to do all these things again with her friends and the people she loves. Kira loves her home and her cats Luna and Shamus. The funds received will be going to Kira to help defray medical costs and to maintain upkeep of her home and cats while she is away.
We would all like to believe that when someone goes into the hospital you simply recover and come out just fine. However, what Kira has is not that simple. Long term damage is inevitable. But we hope that in time she will gain mobility again.
Any donations you can make will greatly help this wonderful family. We appreciate anything you can do. Thank you all very much.
