Background

In early 2018 a couple of UCF students and I competed together in Campus Movie Fest. Campus.

CMF gives students some equipment and 5 days to produce a short film. After some health problems during that week, my team and I managed to put together a short film in roughly 24 hours. We found out a couple weeks later that not only had our film made it into the top 16 films from our school, but it had also been selected as one of the top four films from UCF. Out of over 140 shorts ours had been selected to screen at the Terminus film festival in Atlanta later that year.

Now it will be screening at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival .

The Cannes Film Festival is the largest and oldest film festival in the world.

Participation in the Cannes film festival is an honor and an opportunity to learn from and interact with the best filmmakers of our time.

While I am working towards a career that allows for a regular invitation to this festival, as a student living and working full-time in Florida (who just started existing above the poverty line) this kind of thing could be a once in a life time opportunity.

Which is why I need your help.

No.

"No." is a piece inspired by a spoken word poem I wrote in early 2018. The poem is a window into how  sexual assault has saturated too many of my friends, my loved ones, and my own experiences. While the voice-over is an edited version of my original poem the visuals follow a couple experiencing a situation of assault that represents how easily, frequently, and intimately sexual assault occurs.

I wrote and directed this project, as well as co-starred with Aria Daryadel, Katherine Clarke, and Alexander Santaella Torres.

Sexual Assault in the US

I can't rightly ask for your help in attending the festival without you knowing what I stand for.

According the the National Sexual Violence Resource Center  "In the U.S., one in three women and one in six men experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime."

"20% - 25% of college women and 15% of college men are victims of forced sex during their time in college. Nearly two thirds of college students experience sexual harassment."

If we as a society are to change the frequency with which assaults occur we need to actually talk about it.

We need to talk about it's costs, the damage it causes, how to avoid it, and how it happens. An important step towards reducing the number of assaults is talking about the ones that have already happened.

My hope is that through vulnerability victims can find strength.

My hope is that through telling my own story we can prevent more stories like mine from happening.

My hope is to continue to support platforms for victims of sexual violence.

Cost

Attendance at the Cannes Film festival through CMF cost $3400.

This covers the cost of:

- Lodging & Ground Transportation $1,780

-Internet and phone plan (CellHire) $350

- Cannes accreditation and Marché screening (Festival du Cannes) $630

-Program administration $640

This is what I will need to pay directly to CMF/Cannes Film Festival for my participation, and does not include airfare,  food, lodging for the couple nights I will be in France before the festival, or passport fees.

Which brings me to the total of roughly $5550 for the entire trip.

The first $1700 is due to CMF at 11:59pm PST on Friday, January 18th. The remainder of the program fee will be due by February 8th, 2019.

About Me

I was in the seventh grade when a substitute teacher told me what I would be when I grew up.

She claimed to have a talent for guessing what our careers would look like based solely off of how our peers perceived us.

When she got to me my classmates listed story after story after story that I had shared with them over the course of that year. Having special needs siblings and growing up in an army family will give you a thing or two to talk about.

After leaning back in her chair she smiled, and said I'd be a story teller, in one way or another. Heart heavy with doubt that I would ever do anything so cool, I shook my head and forgot the exchange as time crept forward.

After receiving my associates degree from Valencia College I joined the BFA film program at UCF, where I would be given the opportunity to compete in CMF.

I have lived in Orlando, Fl since 2015. I currently work as a full-time freelance/contract photographer, but I also have worked on the feature films Technicolour Daydream , Looking In The Mirror , and Waves . In 2017 I represented the city of Orlando at the National Poetry Slam

When I get a free minute I like to host the open mic  at Austin's Coffee, write, watch Netflix and pet dogs.

Please, help me pet dogs in France.
